After hosting the Future Nord, an ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event last week, the Hamburg Tennis Association welcomes players from all over the world for the second edition of the Tennis Challenger Hamburg presented by Tannenhof this week.

On a busy opening day of the main draw, the top two seeds of the €44,820 ATP Challenger indoor event booked their spot in the second round. No. 1 seed Kamil Majchrzak defeated Roberto Marcora from Italy 6-3, 6-3 on Monday afternoon. The World No. 105 from Poland saved both break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own four break-point chances to advance after one hour and 11 minutes.

Majchrzak, who is seeking his fourth ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph at the Czech Open in Prostejov, will next take on Yannick Maden of Germany, who eased past Kimmer Coppejans from Belgium 6-0, 6-1 in 63 minutes.

Later in the day, No. 2 seed Taro Daniel fought past Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, a winner of two ATP Challenger titles this season in Calgary, Canada as well as on home soil in Rennes, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The 27-year-old Japanese withstood 12 aces and broke his opponent’s serve three times to prevail after almost two hours of play. Up next for Daniel will be German wild card entry Maximilian Marterer. The lefty beat US-American Maxime Cressy 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 26 minutes.
