Orlando, November 18, 2020 (USTA Press Release)
The Orlando Open Presented by Nemours, a USTA Pro Circuit ATP 80 event, concluded the singles first round on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.
Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro, the tournament’s top seed, as well as second-seeded US-American Denis Kudla, fresh off his ATP Challenger Tour title last week in Cary, N.C., both advanced with straight-sets victories.
Kudla was one of six US-Americans who advanced on Tuesday, including No. 8 seed Mackenzie McDonald, an Orlando resident who trains at the USTA National Campus. Bjorn Fratangelo and lucky loser Nick Chappell each scored upsets, knocking off No. 3 seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia and India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan, respectively. Brandon Nakashima and qualifier Alexander Ritschard also advanced.
No. 4 seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India and Sweden’s Elias Ymer rounded out Tuesday’s singles winners.
