Ilya Ivashka from Belarus and Frenchman Antoine Hoang will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €44,820 Sparkasse Challenger Val Gardena Südtirol held at the Tennis Club Ortisei. No. 2 seed Ivashka defeated No. 3 seed Aslan Karatsev of Russia 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday afternoon in South Tyrol.
The World No. 113 from Minsk withstood 11 aces and broke his opponent’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 26 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Hoang came back from a set down to outlast his compatriot Alexandre Muller 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The 25-year-old Aix-en-Provence resident outpointed his rival 86-75 after one hour and 44 minutes.
Ivashka won the only previous meeting with Hoang in the qualifying of the European Open in Antwerp, Belgium, two years ago. The 26-year-old Belarusian is seeking his fourth ATP Challenger career title, his second of the season following his triumph at the Istanbul Challenger in Turkey in October. Hoang will appear in his fourth final and could lift his second trophy. The World No. 126 took his maiden title at 2018 Eckental, Germany.
Begemann/Olivetti take doubles title
In other action, Andre Begemann of Germany and Albano Olivetti of France clinched the doubles title. The top seeds defeated Ivan Sabanov and Matej Sabanov of Croatia 6-3, 6-2. The final lasted 59 minutes. It marks Begemann’s 27th career title. Olivetti claimed his 11th doubles crown. The pair split €2,670 in prize money and earn 80 ATP Ranking points.
