Following his triumphs at the inaugural Split Open in Croatia and at the Guayaquil Challenger in Ecuador earlier this season, Francisco Cerundolo was crowned champion of the 10th edition of the Campeonato Internacional de Tenis in Campinas, Brazil. The 22-year-old Argentine upset Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain, top seed of the $52,080 clay-court event, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final at the Sociedade Hípica de Campinas.
Cerundolo converted four of his six break-point chances and won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 14 minutes.

“I am very happy, it was an incredible week. Winning the second title in three weeks is something I didn’t expect and I’m very happy with the way I ended the year,” said Cerundolo.
By lifting his third Challenger trophy, the Buenos Aires native took away from Campinas $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. Cerundolo started the season as 248th in the world, arrived in Brazil with a career-high of World No. 159 and will finish the year inside the Top 140.
“I didn’t expect to end the season like this. It is crazy. Now I’m going to go back to Argentina to rest, celebrating with my friends and my family and then start thinking about next year’s goals and calendar,” said Cerundolo, who became the sixth Argentine to clinch the title in Campinas.
