Qualifier Zizou Bergs has capped his dream week in Saint Petersburg by winning his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The World No. 435 fought past Altug Celikbilek of Turkey 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final of the $36,680 Grand Palace Championship I by Formula TX.
Bergs advanced to the championship match without dropping a set, beating Harry Bourchier from Australia, Pavel Kotov of Russia, qualifier Lucas Catarina from Monaco and Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic in the bottom half of the draw.
In the title match, the 21-year-old Belgian fired nine aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in two hours and three minutes.

Bergs, who has lifted four trophies on the ITF World Tennis Tour, took away from Russia’s second-largest city $5,150 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points. His dominant run will see him soar more than 40 spots to a career-high World No. 330 in the FedEx ATP Rankings on Monday.
Eubanks/Quiroz lift doubles trophies
On Saturday, Chistopher Eubanks from the United States and Roberto Quiroz of Ecuador clinched the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds defeated the tournament’s top duo Jesper de Jong and Sem Verbeek from the Netherlands 6-4, 6-3. The final lasted 53 minutes. By winning their first team title, Eubanks and Quiroz split $2,000 in prize money and earned 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
