STUTTGART, March 24, 2021
Seven Top 10 players headline the entry list of the 2021 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix led by World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. The 24-year-old Australian will come to Stuttgart, Germany for the first time. The WTA 500 clay-court event will be held inside the Porsche Arena from April 17 to 25.
“Stuttgart is a great opportunity for me to start the European clay-court season,” said Barty, 2019 winner of the Porsche Race to Shenzhen as well as of the WTA finals. “I’ve heard a lot of positive things about this tournament and I’m really looking forward to being there for the first time.”
World No. 2 and reigning Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka from Japan withdrew from the event and stated that she will open her clay-court season in May.
Wild cards announced
Wild cards into the main draw of the 44th edition of the prestigious tournament have been awarded to local favourites Laura Siegemund, who lifted the trophy on home soil in 2017, and World No. 107 Andrea Petkovic, as well as to 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.

“This is a unique field for a tournament in our category. I don’t know of any other comparable event on the WTA Tour with so many top stars,” says Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tournament director Markus Günthardt.
“The fact that these players come to Stuttgart in these difficult times is an enormous vote of confidence and speaks for the popularity of our tournament. In doing so, they show that they trust us to create safe conditions for everyone involved and, despite all restrictions, to ensure a certain feel-good atmosphere. The efforts made with Porsche and all partners to allow the tournament to take place in these turbulent times have definitely paid off.”
Besides the prize money, this year’s champion will receive a brand-new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.
