Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain is the champion of the inaugural Serbia Challenger Open held at the Novak Tennis Centre in Belgrade, Serbia. The top seed of the € 132,280 clay-court event defeated Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-4, 7-5 in Saturday’s singles final.

Carballes Baena advanced to the title match with wins over Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, Marco Trungelliti of Argentina, last week’s Split Open champion Blaz Rola from Slovenia and Briton Liam Broady. The World No. 105 from Tenerife only dropped one set en-route to the final.

Carballes converted five of his six break points to secure victory in one hour and 51 minutes.

By lifting his eighth Challenger career trophy, his first of the season, the 28-year-old pocketed €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points. After just one week of being outside the Top 100, Carballes will come back to this group on Monday.

Later in the day, Guillermo Duran and Andres Molteni captured the doubles title. The Argentine duo defeated No. 3 seeds Tomislav Brkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nikola Cacic of Serbia 6-4, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 14 minutes. Duran and Molteni €7,870 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
