Second seed Paolo Lorenzi and Gerald Melzer will play the final of the $50,000 Claro Open in Bucaramanga.
The 34-year-old Italian overcame Horacio Zeballos in Saturday’s semi-finals, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Lorenzi hit seven aces and won 77% of his first service points to prevail in two hours and 25 minutes.
Unseeded Austrian Melzer downed Mathias Bourgue 6-4, 7-6. The world numbr 140 from Vienna capitalized on three of his nine break point chances and won 72% of his first service points to reach the final after two hours and nine minutes. The pair will meet for the fourth time on the tour with the Italian leading 2-1 in head to head records. Melzer won the last encounter between the two here in Bucaramanga in last year’s quarterfinals. The 25-year-old Austrian is bidding for his second title of the season after he had lifted the ATP Challenger trophy in Mendoza two weeks ago.
Julio Peralta and Horacio Zeballos claimed the doubles title, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Sergio Galdos and Luis David Martinez in 52 minutes.
