TALLAHASSEE, April 21, 2021

Rising US-American star Jenson Brooksby continued his fine form on Tuesday, reaching the second round of the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, which is being held on clay at the Forestmeadows Tennis Center.

The reigning Orlando Open champion kicked off his campaign against 17-year-old wild card entry Martin Damm late in the afternoon on Stadium Court. Damm was able to stay with his fellow US-American, taking the first set to a tie break, where he took the opener 7-6(11).

Brooksby quickly flipped the table, taking the second and third sets to close out the match with a final score of 6-7(11), 6-1, 6-2 after two hours and 30 minutes. Brooksby comes into the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger fresh off a championship run at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, going the entire week without dropping a set.

In February, Brooksby claimed the first ATP Challenger singles title of his career in Potchefstroom, South Africa, before reaching the final of the USTA Pro Circuit event in Cleveland, Ohio in March.

Next up, Brooksby takes on No. 1 seed Thiago Seyboth Wild in a first career meeting between the two. Brooksby is aiming to advance to his fourth singles Challenger quarterfinal of the year, while the Brazilian will be looking for his second.

Other notable US-Americans advancing to the second round include No. 2 seed Denis Kudla, Bjorn Fratangelo, Ryan Harrison, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, and Alexander Ritschard.

Second round action gets underway Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. local time with doubles play. Later in the day, top seed Seyboth Wild takes on Brooksby. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no spectators are allowed on the grounds, but all matches are live streamed here.
