HAMBURG, May 12, 2021

World No. 41 Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany will compete in this year’s Hamburg European Open. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 500 clay-court event on Wednesday. The tournament will be held from July 12 to 18, 2021.

“I always love to play on home soil. Hamburg is a beautiful city, and the modernized stadium is just awesome. I keep my fingers crossed that we can play in front of spectators again in July,” said Struff, who reached his first ATP Tour career final at the BMW Open in Munich in early May.

However, first up at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex this year will be the ladies, as the WTA Tour will return to Hamburg from July 7 to 11.

“I think it’s great that the WTA Tour is returning to Hamburg. I’m happy for the German tennis fans. This is another upgrade of this traditional event,” said Struff, who lost his opening match at the Hamburg European Open last year in a tight three-set encounter against Russian Karen Khachanov.

“I have confidence in Jan-Lennard that he can make a deep tournament run this year. He showed great tennis in Munich. With his offensive game and his big fighting spirit, he can beat almost anyone on a good day. In addition, ‘Struffi’ is a crowd favourite here in Germany,” said tournament director Sandra Reichel.
