Kosmos Press Release, June 17, 2021

Kosmos, a company founded and chaired by FC Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué, today announced the opening of a new business line, a player management agency that will offer a comprehensive service to athletes where, in addition to representation, commercial and public relations, it will also provide sports, legal and financial advice.

“We are very excited about this project. Many people who have been linked to sport for many years and specialise in different key areas in the development of an athlete’s career work at Kosmos. We know what is important for the active player and for their future, because many of us are or have been professional players,” says Gerard Piqué, President of Kosmos.

The new division will be headed by former tennis player Galo Blanco, who also becomes the agent of Austrian Dominic Thiem, world number 5, and the company’s first signing. Thiem crosses paths again with the man who was his coach in 2018. After reaching two finals at Roland-Garros (2018 and 2019) and one at the Australian Open (2020), Dominic Thiem won his first Grand Slam, the US Open, in 2020.  He also has 17 ATP titles to his name.

A self-confessed Chelsea fan, animal lover and very committed to sustainability and the environment, Dominic Thiem is one of the most respected and loved players on the circuit. He is currently coached by Chilean Nicolas Massu, assisted by his father Wolfgang Thiem, who is often seen in his box with his physio, Alex Stober, and his brother Moritz Thiem. His parents play a very important role for the player and follow their son’s career closely. “I am very happy that Galo is part of the team again. He has been very close to me and my family, even when he stopped being my coach. The season has not started as I would have liked, I am working very hard to get back to the level of the end of 2020, and adding Galo and the rest of the Kosmos team can bring a lot of positive things,” says Thiem.

“On a personal level, I am especially excited to start this project with Domi. We’ve known each other for a long time and I had the opportunity to work with him throughout 2018. There has always been a very good relationship and I think that will make us, together with his sports team, his family and Kosmos, a great team,” adds Galo Blanco.

Blanco will leave his position as Competition Director of Kosmos Tennis to dedicate himself to the new project. Albert Costa, currently the Davis Cup Finals Director, will also take on the role of Competition Director.
