The 2021 grass-court swing, in the lead-up to The Championships at Wimbledon, will feature a new ATP 250 tournament in Mallorca. The Mallorca Championships, offering €783,655 in prize money, was originally set to make its debut in 2020, but the event was not held due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
This week, it will be the first time that an ATP Tour tournament has been contested in Mallorca since 2002 and also the first one hosted on grass in Spain. The event will be headlined by Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem.
Medvedev, No. 2 in the ATP Rankings, has 10 ATP Tour titles to his name, but none have come on this surface. Can he break through under the Mediterranean sun? He will be joined by World No. 5 Thiem, in what will be the Austrian’s first grass-court event since Wimbledon in 2019.
Home favourite Pablo Carreno Busta, Feliciano Lopez, who has won four of his seven ATP Tour titles on grass, and Geneva Open champion Casper Ruud, also feature. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will headline the doubles draw.

Monfils leads Eastbourne line-up
Gael Monfils leads the field as the top seed at the Viking International Eastbourne, the second ATP 250 grass-court event this week. The Frenchman will try to lift his first ATP Tour trophy on this surface.
There are plenty of tough competitors who will try to stop Monfils from doing just that. Alex de Minaur, who made the semi-finals at The Queen’s Club last week, is the second seed, and the third seed is Lorenzo Sonego of Italy.
Other players to watch include big-serving US-American Reilly Opelka, former World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and home favourite Cameron Norrie, who fell just short of the trophy on Sunday in the cinch Championships final.
Very proud moment as my apprentice (my son) has cut this court for the Viking International and I am actually jealous how straight he’s got it! 👊 @the_LTA @EastbourneInt @EastbourneBC @Bingobango46 pic.twitter.com/7YMzBqVypF
