Local fans enjoyed a packed schedule on Day 2 of the Atlantic Tire Championships, an ATP Challenger 80 hard-court tournament held at Cary Tennis Park.
Several collegiate players punched through to the round of 16. Among them, No. 7 seed Christopher Eubanks from the United States defeated Petros Chrysochos of Cyprus in straight sets. Alongside Eubanks, US-American wild card entry Sam Riffice advanced to the second round after facing a match point in the third set against Tatsuma Ito from Japan.
Meanwhile, World No. 461 Aidan McHugh recorded his second match win on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 21-year-old lucky loser from Great Britain fought past Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki in three sets.
In the evening, crowd favorite and former World No. 8 Jack Sock excited fans after a slow start to win in three sets against fellow US-American Ulises Blanch. The day finished with former UNC Tarheel William Blumberg facing Mitchell Krueger. Blumberg and Krueger split sets before the match was suspended. The match will resume Wednesday, second on stadium court.
