Franco Agamenone clinched his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour by lifting the trophy of the IBG Prague Open 2021 by Moneta Bank. The 28-year-old Italian defeated World No. 351 Ryan Peniston from Great Britain 6-3, 6-1 in Saturday’s singles final of the €31,440 clay-court tournament hosted by the TK Spoje Prague in the Czech Republic.
Agamenone battled his way to the championship match through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, No. 4 seeded Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux, sixth favourite Michael Geerts of Belgium and Dutch veteran Igor Sijsling.
The World No. 330 from Lecce saved four of the five break points he faced in the final and broke Peniston’s serve five times to secure victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
Agamenone, who lifted five of his nine career trophies on the ITF World Tennis Tour this season, pocketed €4,400 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.

Cornea/Tsitsipas triumph in doubles
Later in the day, Victor Vlad Cornea of Romania and Petros Tsitsipas from Greece took the doubles title. The No. 4 seeds battled past Czech wild card entries Martin Krumich and Andrew Paulson 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. The encounter lasted one hour and 24 minutes.
By winning their first team title on the ATP Challenger Tour, Cornea and Tsitsipas split €2,000 in prize money and earned 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
