World No. 4 and reigning Olympic champion Alexander Zverev has signed a three-year contract with the NOVENTI OPEN. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 500 grass-court tournament in Halle, Westphalia on Wednesday.
“I particularly look forward to returning to Halle every year. The tournament is well organized, the short walking distances and the local conditions are ideal,” said Zverev.
Tournament director Ralf Weber is also enthusiastic about the commitment: “Sascha made German tennis history in Tokyo and showed how much it means to him representing his home country. It makes me proud that he has this long-term relationship with our tournament.”
Zverev is still seeking his first Halle crown. The 24-year-old Hamburg native finished runner-up twice, losing to Florian Mayer in 2016 and to Roger Federer the following year.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo on August 1st, Zverev celebrated the greatest success of his career when he first defeated World No. 1 Novak Djokovic after a set and break down in the semi-finals followed by a win in the championship match over Karen Khachanov.
“This medal doesn’t just belong to me, it belongs to all of Germany. It was the best week of my life,” Zverev said afterwards.
Zverev joined Boris Becker and Michael Stich, who won the doubles tournament for Germany at Barcelona in 1992, as the only German men who have won tennis gold medals.
