For Radu Albot this moment was almost three years in the making. On Sunday, the 32-year-old Moldovan earned his eighth ATP Challenger Tour career title and first trophy since his maiden ATP Tour triumph at the Delray Beach Open in February 2019, prevailing at the Teréga Open Pau-Pyrénées.
It was a long-awaited return to the winners’ circle for the World No. 137, who turned in an impressive week at the Palais des Sports de Pau in France. Albot battled his way through the top half of the draw with wins over Frenchman Constant Lestienne, Ukrainian qualifier Georgii Kravchenko, top seed Feliciano Lopez from Spain and veteran Sergiy Stakhovksy from Ukraine to reach the championship match of the the €88,520 hard-court event.
The No. 7 seed saved all three break points in the final against Czech young gun Jiri Lehecka and capitalized on two of his own three break-point opportunities to secure a 6-2, 7-5(0) victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
Albot collected €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.

Arneodo/Weissborn take doubles title
On Saturday, Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Austrian Tristan-Samuel Weissborn captured the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds upset the top favourites Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi from Pakistan and David Vega Hernandez of Spain 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 10 minutes.
By winning their third team title following Koblenz and Cherbourg in 2018, Arneodo and Weissborn split €5,250 in prize money and earned 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
