Following four triumphs on the ITF Pro Circuit, French teenager Diane Parry captured her maiden WTA title. The 19-year-old lifted the trophy of the inaugural Montevideo Open, held on clay at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo, Uruguay.
No. 5 seed Parry defeated third-seeded Hungarian Panna Udvardy 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. The World No. 115 converted five of her seven break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 16 minutes.
“I’m just enjoying the moment,” said Parry, who lost her first final in Buenos Aires, Argentina two weeks ago.
“That defeat was difficult because obviously you are very motivated to win your first title. You are motivated to win and to take the trophy. It was a disappointment, she was a little tired to play the final so I didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity,” Parry explained.
“Today’s conditions were different because in Buenos Aires it was windier and here it was easier to play. So I was able to focus on my game and not what was going on outside. I focused on moving well on the court because she plays very fast tennis. I played each point with great intensity.”

Regarding her stay in Montevideo, Parry added: “I really liked playing this tournament. The club is fantastic. The atmosphere was very good and relaxed. That way I managed to feel very comfortable throughout the week and I managed to play my best tennis. I hope to return next year.”
Parry, who beat Anna Siskova from the Czech Republic, Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay, Spanish wild card entry Ane Mintegi del Olmo and No. 6 seed Ekaterine Gorgodze of Georgia en route to the title, earned $15,000 in prize money as well as 160 WTA Ranking points.
