Fourth seed Steven Diez captured the title of the $10,000 ITF Future in Tarragona, winning Sunday’s final 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 against the tournament’s number three Gerard Granollers.
The 24-year-old Canadian hit four aces and won 62% of his first service points to prevail in one hour and 56 minutes. Diez claimed his third ITF Pro Circuit of the season, following his victories in Paguera and Murcia last month. He takes away $1,440 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.
On Friday, Jaume Munar and Marc López, who only dropped one game en route to the final, captured the doubles title through a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 win over Goncalo Oliveira and Akira Santillan. López, ranked world number 29 in the ATP doubles ranking, returned to the ITF Future Circuit to team up with his practice partner from Barcelona for the first time since October 2008. He claimed his second ITF Pro Circuit title. His only previous one is dated back to the year 2001. López is on his way to the United States partnering Feliciano López again for the ATP Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
