Florianopolis Challenger Semi-Finals Are Set

FLORIANOPOLIS/STARNBERG, December 11, 2021

Hugo Dellien leads the semi-final line-up of the Dove Men & Care – La Legión Florianopolis ATP Challenger Tour 80 tournament. The No. 2 seed of the $52,080 clay-court event in Florianopolis, Brazil rallied from a set down to overcome Facundo Juarez of Argentina 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Friday.

Dellien converted seven of his nine break-point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and two minutes.

The World No. 119 will next take on Genaro Alberto Oliveiri from Argentina, who ended the run of Colombian qualifier Nicolas Barrientos, winning 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes.

Top seed Pablo Cuevas was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match against Brazilian qualifier Igor Marcondes. The World No. 98 from Uruguay was leading 6-2, 1-4 when he was forced to stop competing due to a right knee injury.

Marcondes will appear in the stage of the final four at Challenger level for the first time taking on Juan Ignacio Londero. The fourth seeded Argentine defeated home favourite Daniel Dutra da Silva 6-4, 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and 48 minutes.

Cuevas/Matos reach doubles final

In doubles action , No. 2 seeds Martin Cuevas of Uruguay and Rafael Matos from Brazil fought past local wild card entries Wilson Leite and Joao Victor Couto Loureiro 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 after 69 minutes to reach the final.

“It was a very tough match, it was decided in the super tie-break. We started the third set with very high energy, which made the different in the end,” Matos said. “It’s my first time playing with Cuevas. I’m happy with the week. Reaching the final is a good result, but we are always looking for the title. Now we have to rest and prepare our tactics for tomorrow.”

Cuevas and Matos will play the all-Colombian duo and No. 4 seeds Nicolas Barrientos and Alejandro Gomez in Saturday’s championship match.
