A new ATP Challenger Tour champion will be crowned on Sunday when Chun-hsin Tseng of Chinese Taipei takes on Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the singles final of the Maia Open.

Tseng, No. 6 seed of the €44,820 clay-court tournament, upset top favourite Andrej Martin of Slovakia 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday. The 20-year-old four-time winner on the ITF Pro Circuit capitalized on seven of his 11 break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 23 minutes.

Eighth seed Blancaneaux edged out home favourite and last week’s Antalya champion Nuno Borges 7-6(3), 6-0. The 23-year-old from Paris saved two set points and broke his opponent’s serve five times to secure victory in one hour and 31 minutes.

Blancaneaux will play his first title match on the Challenger Tour. The World No. 283 won the only previous meeting between the two in the second round of the Istanbul Challenger in September. Tseng finished runner-up to Spaniard Mario Vilella Martinez in Prague 2019.

Borges/Cabral triumph in doubles

In other action, Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral captured the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds from Portugal defeated the tournament’s top seeded duo of Andrej Martin and Portuguese Goncalo Oliveira 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and eight minutes.

By winning their fifth ATP Challenger team title, Borges and Cabral split €2,670 in prize money and collected 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
