The top-seed of the €42,500 RC Hotel Open headlined the action in Jönköping on Tuesday. Filip Krajinovic, the tournament’s lone top 100-player, beat Evgeny Karlovskiy 7-6, 6-3 to open his title quest. The 24-year-old from Serbia fired 11 aces, saved all seven break points he faced, converting one of his own to seal victory in one hour and 38 minutes. Krajinovic will take on Karen Khachanov next.
Third favourite Jan-Lennard Struff cruised past Swedish wild card Markus Eriksson 6-2, 6-4. The world number 110 from Germany lost his service only once and converted four of his five own break point chances to advance after only 47 minutes.
The tournament’s number four Lukas Lacko fell to French qualifier Constant Lestienne, who fired 12 aces to seal a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory in one hour and 53 minutes.
Fifth seed Gastao Elias advanced to the second round, winning 7-5, 6-3 over Norbert Gombos. The 25-year-old Portuguese saved seven break points and capitalized on two of his own chances to prevail in one hour and 32 minutes.
The first round matches will conclude on Wednesday.
