The ATP Challenger Tour has returned to Chile for the second edition of the Dove Men & Care Legion Sudamericana Challenger Concepción hosted by the Club de Campo Bellavista in Concepción. World No. 114 Hugo Dellien, top seed of the $53,120 clay-court event and competing in first tournament of the 2022 season, opened his title bid with a solid 6-0, 6-1 first-round victory over local qualifier Cristobal Castro on Tuesday.

Wild card entry Dellien converted seven of his 12 break-point opportunities to advance after only 55 minutes. Up next for the 28-year-old Bolivian will be US-American Strong Kirchheimer, who eased past Chilean qualifier Ignacio Antonio Becerra Otarola 6-2, 6-0 on Monday.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Andrej Martin of Slovakia lost his opening match 6-2, 6-3 to Gonzalo Villanueva. The 27-year-old Argentine will next take on home favourite Gonzalo Lama, who beat his compatriot Michel Vernier 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 25 minutes.

Third seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia stormed past Chilean qualifier Alexander Merino 6-0, 6-1 in only 46 minutes and will next play Nicolas Moreno de Alboran from the United States, who celebrated the biggest match win of his career by upsetting former Top 10 player Fernando Verdasco at last week’s ATP Challenger in Blumenau, Brazil.

Francisco Cerundolo, No. 4 seed, defeated Daniel Dutra da Silva from Brazil 7-5, 6-3 after one hour and 33 minutes. The World no. 127 from Argentina will oppose his fellow countryman Matias Franco Descotte in the second round.
