Frenchman Gregoire Barrere and Vasek Pospisil of Canada will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale.
Pospisil, No. 5 seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court tournament in northern France, ended the run of Japanese qualifier Hiroki Moriya on Saturday. The World No. 138 fired 15 aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to secure a 6-2, 6-3 victory in one hour and 27 minutes.
2019 Quimper champion Barrere upset third-seeded Austrian Dennis Novak 6-3, 6-2. The 27-year-old from Charenton-le-Pont capitalized on all of his three break-point opportunities to prevail after only 54 minutes.
Pospisil is seeking his 10th ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first since Charlottesville, United States in November 2019. World No. 167 Barrere could lift his third Challenger trophy. His last triumph took place on home soil in Lille three years ago.
The 31-year-old Canadian won the only previous meeting between the two in the first round of the Open Moselle ATP 250 event in Metz last year.
Olivetti/Vega Hernandez triumph in doubles
Earlier in the day, Albano Olivetti of France and Spaniard David Vega Hernandez captured the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds came from a set down to overcome the all-Dutch combination and tournament top favourites Sander Arends and David Pel 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. The encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes.
By winning their first team title, Olivetti and Vega Hernandez split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
