SHERBROOKE, March 14, 2016
US-American Stefan Kozlov was crowned champion of the Subaru Sherbrooke Futures presented by Rouge FM on Sunday. The $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament was played at the Christian Bourque indoor courts at the Rock Forest recreation centre in Sherbrooke.
Kozlov battled for close to two hours, 30 minutes before getting the better of Brit Lloyd Glasspool 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. In victory, Kozlov saved 13 of the 18 break points he faced in the match. The win is his third career ITF Futures singles title and second trophy of the season. The 18-year-old, ranked number 338 in the world, is a top prospect for US-American tennis. Kozlov was once the second ranked junior player in the world and took home the junior Wimbledon title in 2014.
Kozlov and Glasspool will now head to Drummondville to compete in the $50,000 Drummondville National Bank Challenger.
On Friday, Keith-Patrick Crowley and Max Schnur captured the doubles title, winning 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 against Luke Bambridge and Liam Broady.
