Home favourite and one of the superstars of the ATP Challenger Tour last season, Benjamin Bonzi captured the title of the Challenger Cherbourg – La Manche.

The top seed of the €45,730 indoor hard-court tournament hosted by the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin Complexe Sportif Chantereyne in northwestern France overcame fellow Frenchman Constant Lestienne 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final. In the pair’s first meeting, Bonzi fired 14 aces, won 73 per cent of his first-service points and broke his opponent’s serve three times to seal victory in exactly two hours of play.

The World No. 68, who lifted six trophies on the ATP Challenger Tour last season, earned his first title of the new season. Bonzi earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

The 25-year-old Nimes native is ranked well inside the Top 100 and will next compete in the ATP 250 event Open 13 Provence in Marseille.
