Daniil Medvedev will lead the field as the new World No. 1, with 19 of the Top 20 players in the ATP Rankings in action at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. After a first-round bye the 26-year-old from Russia, who will compete under a neutral banner in the ATP Masters 1000 hard-court event, opens his title bid against the winner of the encounter between Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic and Alexei Popyrin of Australia.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia withdrew from the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the season and announced his decision via social media.

Rafael Nadal will look to extend his perfect 15-0 start to the season. The No. 4 seed will play in his first match either US-American Sebastian Korda or Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia. Stefanos Tsitsipas will be seeking his first title of the year. The fifth favourite from Greece awaits the winner of the first-round match between Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo and US-American wild card entry Jack Sock.

Cameron Norrie, who last October became the first British champion in tournament history, returns to defend his title. Norrie has already tasted success in 2022, lifting the trophy at the Delray Beach Open. The World No. 12 will start his campaign in the Californian desert against either Pedro Martinez of Spain or Portuguese lucky loser Joao Sousa.
