The ATP Tour this week heads to South Florida for the season’s second ATP Masters 1000 event, the Miami Open presented by Itau.
Top seed Daniil Medvedev, who is pursuing his fifth Masters 1000 trophy, leads the field at the Hard Rock Stadium. The 26-year-old Russian is in a tough section of the draw, with a potential blockbuster against former World No. 1 Andy Murray looming in the second round should the Briton advance.
Alexander Zverev of Germany, Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece and Italian Matteo Berrettini are the second, third and fourth seeds, respectively. After a first-round bye, Zverev will open his title bid against the winner of the match between Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco and Borna Coric of Croatia. Tsitsipas will start against either German Daniel Altmaier or US-American qualifier JJ Wolf. Berrettini awaits the winner of the encounter between Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic and Juan Manuel Cerundolo from Argentina.
Hubert Hurkacz, who made a dream run to his first Masters 1000 title here last year, is back in Miami to defend his crown. The 25-year-old from Poland, the tournament’s eighth favourite, will start his campaign against Laslo Djere of Serbia or Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
