World No. 105 Pablo Cuevas leads the semi-final line-up of the Dove Men & Care Challenger Bolivia 2. The No. 2 seed of the $53,120 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event hosted by the Club de Tenis Santa Cruz rallied past Genaro Alberto Olivieri of Argentina 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Friday evening. The tournament’s top seed and home favourite Hugo Dellien was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a right arm injury.

Cuevas, who had edged out local wild card entry Murkel Dellien and Canadian Steven Diez in the previous two rounds, sent down six aces and won 78 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory two hours and 11 minutes.

The 36-year-old Uruguayan will next take on No. 3 seed Juan Pablo Varillas from Peru, who defeated seventh-seeded Argentine Facundo Mena 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and one minute. Cuevas is seeking his 16th career crown on the Challenger Circuit, his first since Lyon in June last year.

In the top half of the draw, Brazilian lucky loser Daniel Dutra da Silva continued his fine run of form in the main draw by knocking off No. 5 seed Tomas Barrios Vera from Chile 6-4, 6-3. The 33-year-old Sao Paulo, who lost in the final round of the qualifying to his compatriot Gilbert Klier Junior, converted four of his five break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 29 minutes.

Dutra da Silva will next play Paul Jubb of Great Britain, the lone European in the stage of the final four. The 22-year-old Englishman beat Hernan Casanova from Argentina 6-3, 7-6(4) in one hour and 49 minutes.

Saturday’s action will start with the doubles final when No. 3 seeds Nicolas Barrientos of Colombia and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela from Mexico are facing the all-Dutch combination of Jesper de Jong and Bart Stevens for the title.
