World No. 496 Yannick Maden of Germany has announced his retirement from professional tennis.
“Thanks to the fascinating and beautiful sport that I dedicated most of my time to since I was a little kid. A journey with many ups and downs comes to an end but many memories and friends that I made over the years will stay,” the 32-year-old Stuttgart native stated on Instagram.

Maden made his ATP Tour main draw debut as a qualifier at the 2016 European Open in Antwerp, where he lost to fifth seed Gilles Simon in the first round. He won his first match at ATP-level at the 2017 Moselle Open, defeating Nicolas Kicker in the first round. One year later, Maden made it to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 events in Budapest and Metz.
Before playing on the professional tour, Maden graduated from Clemson University in South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Financial Management. The Swabian competed for the college tennis team in the Atlantic Coast Conference from 2010 to 2013, earning 2013 All-American honours in doubles. His brother Dominique, was his teammate at Clemson. Maden reached a career-high ranking of World No. 96 in June 2019, captured eight career titles on the ITF Pro Circuit and reached seven finals on the ATP Challenger Tour.
