OEIRAS, March 26, 2022
The ATP Challenger Tour has returned to Portugal this weekend for the first leg of a two-week clay-court swing held at the Complexo Desportivo do Jamor in Oeiras. The €45,730 Oeiras Open 1 will be held from March 27 to April 3.
World No. 49 Benoit Paire will be the highest-ranked player in the field. The 32-year-old Frenchman, a three-time champion on the ATP Tour, is bidding for his seventh Challenger crown, his first since winning on home soil in Mouilleron-Le-Captif 2015. Paire will open his title bid against Croatian Nino Serdarcusic. World No. 99 Gianluca Mager of Italy leads the bottom half of the draw and will meet his compatriot Andrea Vavassori in the first round.
Nuno Borges leads a strong Portuguese contingent. The World No. 150 will seek his second title on the ATP Challenger Tour following his maiden triumph in Antalya, Turkey last year. The No. 6 seed from Maia will start in home campaign against local wild card entry Pedro Araújo. Gastão Elias, Pedro Sousa, João Domingues and Tiago Cação will also be part of the main draw.
