ZADAR/STARNBERG, March 26, 2022
Following two hard-fought three-set semi-final encounters, the championship match of the Falkensteiner Punta Skala – Zadar Open is set, as Daniel Michalski of Poland will take on Italian teenager Flavio Cobolli for the singles title at the €45,730 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event in Croatia.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Tenis Klub Borik, Michalski emerged victorious from the battle of the qualifiers with Carlos Sanchez Jover of Spain. Both players appeared in the stage of the last four at Challenger level for the first time but 22-year-old Warsaw native overcame a slow start to seal a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win. Michalski capitalized on six of his eight break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 20 minutes.

Earlier in the day, No. 6 seed Cobolli outlasted in-form Frenchman Manuel Guinard, who captured his maiden Challenger crown in Roseto degli Abruzzi in Italy last Sunday, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The 19-year-old Florence native won 54 per cent of the total points played to advance in two hours and 16 minutes.
Michalski, a winner of seven titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour, is currently sitting on a career-high ranking of World No. 337. The same is true of 116th-ranked Cobolli, who has captured one title on the Pro Circuit. In their first meeting, both players are vying for their maiden Challenger crown.
Kolar/Vavassori earn doubles title
In other action, Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic and Italian Andrea Vavassori clinched the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds rallied past Franco Agamenone of Italy and Manuel Guinard 3-6, 7-6(7), 10-6. The encounter lasted one hour and 44 minutes.
By winning their second team title after the 2020 Maia Open in Portugal, Kolar and Vavassori split €2,670 in prize money and pocketed 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
