HALLE, March 31, 2022

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Sebastian Korda will compete in this year’s Terra Wortmann Open. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 500 grass-court tournament on Thursday. The 29th edition will be held in Halle, Westphalia from June 11 to 19, 2022.

“This sensational field of participants promises top-class matches from the first round of the tournament. My advice to tennis fans is to get your tickets now,” tournament director Ralf Weber stated in press release.

With the commitment of the 23-year-old right-hander from Athens, one of the top stars of the ATP Tour will come to Halle, Westphalia. Tsitsipas not only won the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2018, but also triumphed the following year at the season finale at London’s O2 Arena, one of seven career titles to date for the man who served as an ambassador for the Greek organization “Mazi gia to Paidi”. “Together for Children” supports underprivileged children in his home country.

In 2021 he reached his the final of a Grand Slam event at Roland-Garros for the first time, but lost to Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set match after leading 2-0 in sets. He believes in winning “not just one, but many Grand Slam titles,” said Tsitsipas, “it’s just a matter of time.”

Korda will return to the Halle grass-court event for the second consecutive year after reaching the quarterfinals in 2021. The Korda family’s connection to Halle goes back to 1993, when Sebastian’s father Petr Korda reached the semi-finals at the tournament’s inaugural edition. Four years later, Korda Sr. even stormed to the final, but lost to Yevgeny Kafelnikov.

“Of course it’s special to play in a tournament in which your own father was already in the final,” said Korda. “Obviously I want to do as well, if not better.”

The 21-year-old US-American will face strong competition. World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia leads the line-up.

Home favourite and World No. 4 Alexander Zverev, Canadian young gun Felix Auger-Aliassime, Italy’s #NextGenATP star Jannik Sinner, Australian enfant terrible Nick Kyrgios and Hubert Hurkacz of Poland will also be part of the field in Germany.
