Herbert To Face Riedi In Lugano Challenger Semis

Pierre-Hugues Herbert remains the last seeded player left in the singles draw of the Challenger Banca stato Città di Lugano. The No. 4 seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger indoor hard-court tournament rallied past Romanian veteran Marius Copil 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in Friday’s quarterfinal.

Herbert withstood nine aces, broke serve two times won one point more than his opponent to secure victory in one hour and 46 minutes. The World No. 134 from France, a five-time Grand-Slam champion in doubles, will next take on Swiss young gun Leandro Riedi. The 20-year-old continued his fine run of form on home soil by beating his compatriot Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-2, 7-6(4) in one hour and 19 minutes.

Nardi to take on Stebe

In the bottom half of the draw, Luca Nardi emerged victorious from the battle of the teenagers with Swiss qualifier Jerome Kym 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(7). The 18-year-old Italian outpointed his rival 102-98 to reach his third semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour after two hours and seven minutes. Nardi captured his maiden Challenger crown at the Città di Forli 1 in the first week of the 2022 season.

The World No. 297 from Pesaro will next play Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. The 31-year-old German ended the winning streak of in-form Austrian Jurij Rodionov, champion of last week’s Flowbank Challenger Biel/Bienne with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory. Stebe converted five of his seven break-point chances to advance in 63 minutes.
