Luca Nardi of Italy captured his second ATP Challenger career title by winning the second edition of the €45,730 Challenger Banca stato Città di Lugano. In Sunday’s singles final between two youngsters of the circuit, the 18-year-old outlasted 20-year-old Swiss wild card entry Leandro Riedi 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
On Centrale at the Padiglione Conza, Nardi was more solid on his serve, hitting nine aces and winning 80 per cent of his first-service points. The World No. 297 also showed more consistency from the baseline with good length in his shots and gained the decisive break in the fourth game of the final set to prevail after one hour and 33 minutes.
Nardi, who clinched his maiden crown on home soil at the Città di Forli 1 in the opening week of the season, pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Riedi, first-time Challenger finalist and winner of the 2020 Australian Open boys’ doubles title alongside Nicholas David Ionel, earned €3,650 in prize money and 50 ATP Ranking points.
