Munar Wins Andalucia Open Challenger Event

Home favourite Jaume Munar is the champion of the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open. The No. 6 seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament ended the run of Argentine alternate Pedro Cachin with a 6-2, 6-2 win in Sunday’s singles final on Estadio Manolo Santana in Marbella, Spain.

Munar saved all five break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own five break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 21 minutes. The 24-year-old Mallorca native dropped just 29 games during the week on the Costa del Sol.

Munar, who finished runner-up to Pedro Martinez, Gianluca Mager and Pablo Carreno Busta in the last three editions hosted by the Puente Romano Tenis Club, claimed his seventh ATP Challenger career title. By lifting his first trophy of the season, the World No. 89 earned €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.

Sherif wins WTA 125 tournament

In other action, Egyptian Mayar Sherif clinched the title of the inaugural women’s event in Marbella. The No. 3 seed of the WTA 125 event defeated Tamara Korpatsch of Germany 7-6(1), 6-4 in the championship match.

Sherif beat Anna Blinkova of Russia, Elisabetta Cocciaretto from Italy, No. 8 seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova from Slovakia and top seed Danka Kovinic of Montenegro en route to the title win.

The 25-year-old Cairo native claimed her second W125 title following her triumph in Karlsruhe, Germany last year.
