Tseng Takes Murcia Challenger Title

Young gun Chun-hsin Tseng captured the title of the Costa Cálida Región de Murcia. The 20-year-old from Chinese Taipei upset the tournament’s top favourite Norbert Gombos from Slovakia 6-4, 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final held at the Real Murcia Club de Tenis 1919.

Tseng, No. 4 seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament, saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own nine-break point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 22 minutes.

The World No. 140 battled his way trough the bottom half of the draw with wins over Ukrainian qualifier Oleksii Krutkyh, Spanish qualifier Daniel Merida Aguilar, Pedro Cachin of Argentina and Ivan Gakhov from Russia.

By lifting his third ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph Bengaluru, India, Tseng earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Cervantes/Roca Batalla win doubles title

In other action, Inigo Cervantes and Oriol Roca Batalla claimed the doubles title. The Spaniards stunned the tournament’s top seeds Pedro Cachin and Martin Cuevas from Uruguay 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 10-7 in the championship match on Saturday. The encounter lasted one hour and 51 minutes.

Cervantes and Roca Battala won their third Challenger team title, their first since Lima, Peru in November 2020. The pair split €2,670 in prize money and pocketed 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
