Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli was successful on home soil by winning the Dove Men+Care Legión Sudamericana 2 hosted by the Club Naútico Hacoaj in Buenos Aires. The No. 3 seed of the $53,120 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament emerged victorious from Sunday’s singles final with his compatriot Andrea Collarini 7-5, 6-2.
Ugo Carabelli battled his way to the title match through the bottom half of the draw with wins over fellow Argentines Facundo Juarez, Facundo Diaz Acosta, Gonzalo Villanueva and second-seeded Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas.
The World 175 capitalized on five of his seven break-point chances and won 57 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 45 minutes.
Buenos Aires native Ugo Carabelli collected at his home tournament $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. It was the second ATP Challenger Tour title win for the 22-year-old following his triumph in Warsaw, Poland in August last year.
Duran/Meligeni Rodrigues triumph in doubles
On Saturday, Guillermo Duran of Argentina and Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues captured the doubles title. The top seeds rallied past Luciano Darderi of Italy and Argentine Juan Bautista Torres 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. The final lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
By winning their first team title, Duran and Meligeni Rodrigues split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
