GSTAAD, May 12, 2022

Stan Wawrinka will return to Gstaad competing in the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad for the first time since 2013. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament on Thursday.

The 37-year-old from Lausanne, who took part in an adrenaline-stoking parachute jump during the 2013 tournament, achieved his best result here in 2005 when he finished runner-up to Argentine Gaston Gaudio.

“I’m really looking forward to Gstaad. The beautiful setting is unique and I enjoy playing in front of the fantastic Swiss crowd more than ever. I have great memories of the tournament. I played my very first ATP final here,” said Wawrinka, who achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 3 in 2014 and ended 2014 to 2016 at World No. 4 before undergoing two left knee surgeries in 2017 and two left foot surgeries in 2021.

The EFG Swiss Open Gstaad will be held in the Berner Oberland from July 17 to 24 and will feature a strong field of participants. Three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka will be joined by two Top 10 players, 2018 winner Matteo Berrettini of Italy and defending champion Casper Ruud from Norway.

Pre-sale tickets are now available through the tournament’s official website.
