FORLI/STARNBERG, May 30, 2022
Following five indoor tournaments this season, the ATP Challenger Tour is back in Forli this week for the first outdoor clay-court event hosted by the Cooperativa Tennis Villa Carpena.
The €134,920 Forli Open is led by World No. 66 Lorenzo Musetti. After losing an exciting five-set battle to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round at Roland-Garros, the 20-year-old Italian was awarded a wild card into the main draw. In his second Challenger tournament of the season, Musetti will start his title bid against Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan and is projected to face World No. 88 and third-seeded Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the semi-finals. The #NextGenATP star captured his so far only Challenger title here in Forli two years ago and will try to lift his first trophy since then.
In the bottom half of the draw, Jaume Munar of Spain will open his Emilia-Romagna campaign against Alessandro Giannessi of Italy. The World No. 87 could take on Hugo Dellien of Bolivia, fourth favourite of the ATP Challenger 125 tournament. Munar is bidding for his eighth Challenger crown, his second of 2022 following his triumph on home soil at the Andalucia Open in Marbella.
