FORLI/STARNBERG, June 2, 2022
The bottom half of the draw at the Forli Open was in second-round action on Wednesday led by World No. 87 Jaume Munar. The second-seeded Spaniard eased past Portuguese veteran Gastao Elias 6-3, 6-0 to book his spot in the quarterfinals of the €134,920 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament.
Munar won 92 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival four times to advance in one hour and 13 minutes. The 25-year-old Mallorca native will next take on No. 5 seed Taro Daniel of Japan, who beat French qualifier Matteo Martineau 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 18 minutes.
In other action, Riccardo Bonadio edged out in-form Argentine Andrea Collarini, runner-up at last week’s Vicenza Challenger event, 7-5, 7-5. The 28-year-old Italian capitalized on five of his 10 break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 52 minutes.
Up next for Bonadio will be Italian qualifier Francesco Passaro, who benefited from the retirement of his compatriot Giulio Zeppieri. Passaro was leading 6-4, 3-0 when Zeppieri was forced to stop playing due to a right leg injury.
