The 2022 Schwaben Open are cancelled. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP Challenger Tour 80 tournament on Thursday.

They stated in a press release: “Two major sponsors withdrew at short notice for reasons unrelated to the tournament. Unfortunately, this lack of financial support cannot be compensated for overnight. We were searching for an alternative until the last minute, but we are also feeling the effects of the pandemic and the current Ukraine crisis.”

The Schwaben Open celebrated its inaugural edition at the Tennis Club Augsburg Siebentisch in summer 2019 when local favourite Yannick Hanfmann powered to his fifth ATP Challenger Tour career title and fourth on home soil following his triumphs in Ismaning 2017, Braunschweig 2018 and Ludwigshafen earlier in 2019. In an exciting final, the German, a former University of Southern California standout, saved three match points to overcome rising tennis star Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland in three sets.

In 2020 and 2021, the clay-court event did not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament hopes to return to the ATP Challenger calendar next year.
