Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray produced a vintage display against World No. 5 and BOSS Open top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semi-finals of the ATP 250 grass-court tournament in Stuttgart.
The former World No. 1, currently ranked 68 in the world, claimed one of his biggest victories since undergoing hip surgery in 2019 as he continued his fine run of form this week in Germany. Murray, who advanced to the stage of the last four at the ATP Challenger in Surbiton last week, won 82 per cent of his first-service points and 52 per cent of the total points played to prevail 7-6(4), 6-3 in one hour and 40 minutes.

“I thought I did well. He served unbelievably well in the first set and I had very few chances when I was returning,” said Murray.
“But when he was creating opportunities on my serve I stayed strong. I played a really solid tiebreak and in the second set, I served well while he dropped a little bit.
“Once I was in the rallies I felt like I was dictating a lot of the points so it was a good performance.”
Murray will next take on Australia’s enfant terrible Nick Kyrgios, who benefited from the retirement of Marton Fucsovics of Hungary. The 27-year-old Canberra native was leading 7-6(3), 3-0 when Fucsovics was forced to stop playing with a lower back injury.
Berrettini beats Sonego
In the bottom half of the draw, Matteo Berrettini emerged victorious from the all-Italian affair with seventh-seeded Lorenzo Sonego, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 seed sent down seven aces and converted two of his 10 break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 17 minutes.

“It was a really tough match,” said Berrettini, who is competing in his first tournament since the World No. 10 underwent a minor operation on his right hand in March. “Lorenzo was playing really well. I wasn’t feeling that comfortable but it is normal. I haven’t played for three months and it isn’t easy to come back. The crowd helped me and my team is always here. I am happy with the win.”
Berrettini will next take on Germany’s No. 2 Oscar Otte, who received a walkover from Benjamin Bonzi. The 25-year-old Frenchman was forced to withdraw from the match due to abdominal pain.
