Oscar Otte had already started preparing for his quarterfinal match on Friday morning at the BOSS Open when he learned from ATP supervisor Hans-Jürgen Ochs that his opponent Benjamin Bonzi could not play. The 25-year-old Frenchman was forced to withdraw due to stomach ache.
“I’m very sorry for him, I’ve already texted him and wished him all the best,” Otte told the crowd on Center Court at the Tennis Club Weissenhof. “I would have loved to have played in front of my home crowd today. I would be very happy if many spectators will return for tomorrow’s semis.”

By reaching the stage of the final four in Stuttgart, the 28-year-old winner of five ATP Challenger Tour titles is projected to crack the Top 50 for the first time in his career.
“I’m happy that I’m slowly but steadily making my way up the ladder. This is only possible with hard work, as nothing comes from nothing. At the beginning of this year I made it into the Top 100, now I’m in the top 50. Maybe even higher, because the tournament here isn’t over yet“, said Otte.
In his second semi-final of the season after the BMW Open in Munich, the current World No. 61 from Cologne will take on an Italian on Saturday – either No. 2 seed Matteo Berrettini or sixth favourite Lorenzo Sonego.
