World No. 92 Jaume Munar of Spain captured the title of the Internazionali Di Tennis Città Di Perugia| G.I.MA Tennis Cup.

The No. 2 seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event in Italy defeated defending champion and third favourite Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the singles final on Sunday evening.

Under the lights at the Tennis Club Perugia, Munar sent down five aces and won 64 per cent of his first-service points. He capitalized on eight of his 16 break-point chances to secure victory in two hours and 48 minutes.

“I am delighted. For many months we have been forced to play without spectators in the stands. Having won this tournament in front of a great crowd from the beginning to the end of the week makes everything more beautiful and exciting. I played intense and very complicated matches, the level of competition was very high,” said Munar, who battled past local qualifier Luciano Darderi in a more than three hours marathon match in the semi-finals.

“The quality and quantity of tournaments that are staged in Italy year after year is extraordinary. It is no coincidence that players from Italy are achieving good results at the highest levels.”

By winning his eighth ATP Challenger career crown, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil in Marbella in April, Munar earned €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.
