Three of the top four-seeds were in action on quarterfinals Friday at the $125,000 Israel Open in Ra’anana.
The tournament’s number one Evgeny Donskoy rallied back to overcome eighth seed Marco Chiudinelli 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. The 25-year-old Russian fired nine aces and converted five of his 22 break point chances to reach his first semi-final of the season in two hours and 16 minutes.
Donskoy will take on Thomas Fabbiano next. The fifth favourite from Italy defeated Ti Chen 6-3, 6-1. Fabbiano won 65% of his first service points and 57% of the total points to finish the encounter after one hour and 15 minutes.
Local hero Dudi Sela cruised past fellow Isreali Amir Weintraub, winning 6-0, 6-1 in only 43 minutes. The world number 84 saved the only break point he faced converting five of his own to set a semi-final meeting with the tournament’s number three Ricardas Berankis. The 25-year-old from Lithuania beat Konstantin Kravchuk 6-3, 6-3. Berankis finished the encounter after one hour and 14 minutes.
