Top-seed Evgeny Donskoy and the tournament’s number three Ricardas Berankis will compete in Sunday’s title match of the $125,000 Israel Open in Ra’anana.
The world number 82 from Russia eased past Thomas Fabbiano 6-1, 6-4. Donskoy won 86% of his first service points and converted five of his seven break point chances to advance after 68 minutes. He will appear in his first final since Pune Challenger in October last year.
Berankis knocked-off second seed and home favourite Dudi Sela, rallying 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The The 25-year-old Lithuanian withstood six aces, hitting three of his own to prevail in two hours and five minutes. Berankis reached his first final of the season, claimed his last Challenger trophy in Ortisei in November last year.
Donskoy and Berankis will meet for the fifth time on the tour, with the Vilnius native leading 3-1 in head to head records. Donskoy, however, emerged victorious from the last encounter in Moscow 2015.
Earlier the day Konstantin Kravchuk from Russia and Denys Molchanov from the Ukraine rallied back 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 to win the doubles final against Jonathan Erlich from Israel and Philipp Oswald from Austria. The match lasted one hour and 35 minutes.
