LEÓN, April 4, 2016
Michael Berrer claimed his 11th ATP Challenger title, winning Sunday’s final of the $75,000 Torneo Itnernacional in León against Joao Souza 6-3, 6-2.
The sixth seed from Germany sent down five aces, winning 93% of his first service points. Berrer saved all of the four break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own to seal victory in one hour and five minutes.
“I felt really good today. I do not really remember when I won my last title. It feels like ages ago,” Berrer was happy after taking his first Challenger crown since Mouilleron-Le-Captif in 2013. “It was an amazing week here. I played really well, it could not have been much better.”
Berrer takes away $10,800 in prize money as well as 100 ATP ranking points, reaching 109th position on Monday.
Santiago Gonzalez and Mate Pavic captured the doubles title with a 6-4, 3-6, 13-11 victory over Sam Groth and Leander Paes. The match lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
