Muller Leads Semi-Finals Line-Up In Cordenons

The ATP Challenger Tour is back in Cordenons, Italy this week, returning for a 19th straight year on the circuit. World No. 157 Alexandre Muller leads the semi-finals line-up of the Serena Wines Tennis Cup 1881 Internazionali Del Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The No. 7 seed of the €45,730 of the clay-court event being held at Eurosporting Cordenons defeated home favourite Andrea Pellegrino 6-4, 7-5 on Friday. Muller converted three of his five break-point chances to advance in one hour and 45 minutes. The 25-year-old Frenchman will next take on Zhizhen Zhang of China, who beat Russian lucky loser Andrey Chepelev 7-6(5), 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, US-American qualifier Nicolas Moreno de Alboran booked his spot in the stage of the final four with a 7-6(2), 7-5 victory over Italian Matteo Arnaldi. The 25-year-old New York City native won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 24 minutes.

Up next for Moreno de Alboran is Andrea Vavassori, who benefited from the retirement of fellow Italian and qualifier Mattia Bellucci. Vavassori was leading 2-6, 7-6(5), 4-1 when Bellucci was forced to stop playing.
