Italy Celebrates Opening Win At Davis Cup Finals

BOLOGNA/STARNBERG, September 15, 2022

Italy and Spain opened their Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten home campaign with wins on Wednesday.

The Italian squad, led by Matteo Berrettini, swept past Croatia 3-0 at the Unipol Arena in Bologna in Group A. The World No. 15 fought past Borna Coric 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1. Earlier in the day, Lorenzo Musetti beat Borna Gojo 6-4, 6-2.

“It is the first time that I play as local in Italy with a full stadium,” said Musetti after the match. “It’s a feeling that I cannot describe with words. I have always dreamed about this and having won feels so good. My family was in the stands and that made it even more special.”

Meanwhile at the Pabellon Municipal Fuente de San Luis in Valencia, Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Roberto Bautista Agut led Spain to a 3-0 win over Serbia in Group C.
