The interesting entry list for the ATP 250 event is certainly relevant for the good sales. Spectators can look forward to an attractive mix of young and experienced players, appearing at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos.

Four players of the current top 10 in the ATP Singles Race to London will come to Munich, led by Belgium’s David Goffin, the current world number 13. Charismatic Frenchman Gael Monfils, Austria’s promising youngster Dominic Thiem and Spain’s number three Roberto Bautista-Agut are the further favourites of the 28-man-field.

German hopes are associated with the country’s number one Philipp Kohlschreiber, NextGen star Alexander Zverev as well as public favourite Dustin Brown. 2009 US-Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro was granted a main draw wild card returning to the capital of Bavaria for the first time in eight years.

“It shows that the tournament is at top-level this year,” tournament director Patrik Kühnen is pleased.

The qualifying will start next Saturday with other interesting names. World number 89 Mikhail Kukushkin is leading the official acceptance list, followed by number 91 Santiago Giraldo and Marco Cecchinato, ranked 99th. With Jan-Lennard Struff, Michael Berrer, who captured his 11th ATP Challenger title in León, Sarasota Open champion Mischa Zverev and Daniel Brands, four Germans will also appear in the 16-man-qualfiying draw. The biggest name, however, will be the one of two time Davis Cup champion Radek Stepanek.

The only downer is the weather forecast for the tournament’s start. The current pleasant midweek weather in Munich will be replaced by cloudy, wet and cooler weather across southern Germany on Friday and Saturday. Rainfall is possible.
